Town River Stewards Committee

Meeting Minutes
July 7, 2004

Location:Bridgewater Public Library
Attendees:Chairman Michael Enos, Kent Kreutler, Jim Revil, Carole Smudin, Warren Turner (new member from W Bridgewater) and Jim Howell

The meeting began with a review of the previous minutes. They were accepted.

Old Business: The debris from the May Scotland St. Bridge cleanup in West Bridgewater has been accepted by the town with the much appreciated help of Tom Green, Public Works Supervisor.

The WB Selectman were notified of our mission and plans for the near future so they will know more about us if we need similar help in the future.

The land which has the debris dumped in the small access road on the west side of Scotland St. just north of the Scotland St Bridge is owned by Cumberland Farms and it appears to be unlikely they will block it off to prevent further unauthorized dumping by persons unknown. We will make the request, however.

Kent Kreutler and Jim Revil made a survey with pictures that are on our website of the next planned cleanup on the river at the area behind the Campus Plaza in Bridgewater. Estimate is 1-2 truck loads with metal predominating. The area behind the plaza was noted to be much improved and cleaned by the management.

Jim Revil has spoken to Selectman Lemon about the planned cleanup and Mike Enos has spoken to Health Inspector Kravitz about having the town accept the debris as was done in W. Bridgewater but that is not settled yet.

New Business: The first new business will be to try to get Bridgewater officials to understand the need to help us in the cleanup by accepting debris removed form the river within the Bridgewater town boundary. Mike Enos will contact Kitty Doherty to see if she can help with contacting officials who may know and appreciate her work with the NRTB. Once that hurdle is crossed we can plan the cleanup.

Jim Revil showed us a letter he hopes we would approve to put in public places in the area to invite interested people. We accepted totally and thanked him for his thought and work.

Next planned meeting is Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the West Bridgewater Library at 7:00 P.M.

Meeting adjourned at 7:45 P.M. (yes that is right, a 45 minute meeting!!)
